Our work for undocumented minors:
Special Immigrant Juvenile Status

what is SPECIAL IMMIGRANT JUVENILE STATUS (sijs)?

Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a type of immigration relief for minors who have been neglected, abused, or abandoned by one or both parents. It must be in the child’s best interest to remain with their legal guardian or single parent in the US.

The Juvenile Immigration Task Force is a program that aims to help 100 young immigrants under the age of 21. The program will help them apply for special status in the U.S. at no cost. No other organization has a unit dedicated solely to SIJS legal representation.

Who benefits from the Special Immigrant Juvenile status?

In order to secure a safe pathway to citizenship for undocumented youth, Social Justice Collaborative’s new SIJS task force aims to help unaccompanied children who have been neglected, abused or abandoned by one or both parents, and have arrived in the U.S. alone.

HOW YOU CAN BE PART OF THE TRANSFORMATION

Social Justice Collaborative also has the option for lawyers and legal teams from all practice areas to join one of their Special Immigrant Juvenile Status clinics.

Legal teams are given adequate training and CLE credit. The time commitment to fill out the forms is only one day. Social Justice Collaborative will supply all of the necessary tools and resources, the session is completely aided by Social Justice Collaborative’s pro bono team, and the forms are reviewed by Social Justice Collaborative’s staff attorneys before they are filled.

Social Justice Collaborative invites you to explore their website about their clinics by clicking: here.

Being part of the SIJS Task Force is an amazing feeling –  excited, challenged and safe at the same time. The key is to give our team the right conditions to develop and grow”
— said Enrique Jimenez, Supervisor of the new Special Immigrant Juvenile Status task force.
