abigail esquivias

Community partnerships and advocacy director

Abigail is a Mexican-American, first-generation college graduate. She grew up in the North Bay with her three younger siblings and her parents. Abby graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in Sociology.

Her history with Social Justice Collaborative (SJC) began when she served as a legal intern in college. After graduation, she worked in an international immigration law firm. She has been with SJC since 2019. She has gained invaluable experience and knowledge about the immigration legal system. Growing up, Abby knew her passion involved serving marginalized communities and being a part of movements directed at positive social impact. She has been involved in communities working for immigrant rights, racial justice, early childhood education, LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, and reproductive justice. She works every day under the wise words of Mariame Kaba, a social justice activist, educator and organizer: “Hope is a discipline.” She believes that it is crucial to work in community towards a better future, everyone’s role looks different, and each and every path is important to enacting positive change. As someone deeply rooted in her culture, as a daughter of immigrants, and as a person deeply motivated and inspired by her family and community, she is passionate about the work that she does.

As Community Partnerships and Advocacy Director, she looks to connect with community leaders, organizations, and individuals to identify and fill resource gaps while advocating for necessary change. She is thankful to be a part of such a compassionate, energetic, and funny team!
